Just bought a 2015 GS250 with a little over 3,000 miles. I'm still learning about bikes, so I'm not sure if that mileage is high or not. I want to change the oil soon but don't know what type is best for this engine. Should I go with synthetic or conventional? Any help would be appreciated. Also, is it necessary that I do the oil change now? I read that it should be at around 7500 miles but I'm not sure.

3,000 miles isnt too high but if you don’t know the oil history, changing it now is a good idea. For this bike a quality synthetic oil is usually recommended for better protection and performance, but conventional works if thats what you prefer. Check the owner’s manual for exact specs and intervals.

3k miles is a joke and shows that the bike spent most of its life parked. As for the oil, I think the factory spec is 10W-40, so any reputable brand will do an excellent job. While it's not an absolute must to change the oil now, do it so that you have a piece of mind. In general, for a fully synthetic you can replace at around 7k miles or once a year, depending on whichever comes first.

Congrats and don't worry, 3k is is a joke, like the other mentioned. As for the oil they're recommended to go with 10-40, but some ownere decide to change things a bit, but I'd keep it as it should be. You can ask the previous owner what kind it had previously.

The oil need to be replaced once a year and since yours had 3k miles, then the oil was probably replaced on a yearly basis. Ask the previous owner. If you get a sure proof that ti's changed recently, then don't bother too much.

As for recomendations, I used Valvoline
