GS250 crankshaft

Dealing with an issue where the stator looks oil-fouled and isnt charging properly. I’m wondering if theres a crankshaft seal behind the stator that could be leaking oil onto it. Has anyone had experience with the crankshaft seal on a GS250? If so how difficult is it to replace and could that be causing the charging problem? Any advice or insights would be really appreciated.

Hey man youre likely right on the money with that crankshaft seal idea. Replacing that seal can be a bit of a job needing a flywheel puller but yes leaking oil can for sure mess up your charging system over time.

Yeah, there's a crank seal behind the stator on the GS250 and it's not the hardest job, but you'll need to pull the stator cover and possibly the rotor. Seal replacement itself isn't bad if you've got a puller and some patience

better to call a professional mechanic if you don't have experience. Messing up a crankshaft seal installation can lead to bigger oil leaks or even damage the crankshaft itself if not done precisely. It'll save you a headache, potential costly mistakes, and ensure it's done right the first time

A friend of mine had the same problem with his GS250,stator covered in oil and not charging well. It turned out the crank seal was shot. He tried fixing it himself, but after struggling for hours, he had to get a mechanic. After they replaced the seal and cleaned everything up, the charging worked just fine again
